Time, Wavelet and Hilbert-Huang Domain Analysis of Signals from Ultrasonic Based NDT

چکیده
In this paper we compare the effectiveness of the time, wavelet and Hilbert Huang domain analysis of waveforms from a Non Destructive Test (NDT) equipment. The analysis of the signals from NDT systems is one of the most important activities since it allows to locate the actual defects. Very often the echoes traveling back to the sensors are superimposed with the signal from the transducer. We analyze the waveforms obtained by couples of sensors in order to extract the echoes and to recognize the points were they originate. A preliminary numerical analysis has been used to catch the main features of the elastic waves propagations in inhomogeneous materials. Key-Words: Wavelet transform, Hilbert-Huang transform, Non Destructive Test, Ultrasonic waves, Magnetostrictive transducers and sensors

Hybrid Signal Processing Technique to Improve the Defect Estimation in Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing of Composite Structures
This work proposes a novel hybrid signal processing technique to extract information on disbond-type defects from a single B-scan in the process of non-destructive testing (NDT) of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) material using ultrasonic guided waves (GW). The selected GFRP sample has been a segment of wind turbine blade, which possessed an aerodynamic shape. Two disbond type defects hav...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...
متن کاملEmpirical Mode Decomposition and Rough Set Attribute Reduction for Ultrasonic Flaw Signal Classification
Feature extraction and selection are the most important techniques for ultrasonic flaw signal classification. In this study, empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is first used to obtain the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) of original ultrasonic signals. Such IMFs and traditional time as well as frequency domain based statistical parameters are extracted as the initial features of flaw signal. Aft...

The effective noise reduction schemes in ultrasonic inspection have shown significant role for detection of flaws in materials. This paper presents the comparative result of noise reducing schemes based on Hilbert-Huang transform and Wavelet transform. The basic principle of HHT scheme includes two parts which are empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm and a sum of intrinsic mode function...
متن کاملFourier, Wavelet, and Hilbert-Huang Transforms for Studying Electrical Users in the Time and Frequency Domain "2279
The analysis of electrical signals is a pressing requirement for the optimal design of power distribution. In this context, this paper illustrates how to use a variety of numerical tools, such as the Fourier, wavelet, and Hilbert-Huang transforms, to obtain information relating to the active and reactive power absorbed by different types of users. In particular, the Fourier spectrum gives the m...
